My appreciation for her truly began during her health struggles which made me impressed with how she handled her struggles. Suffering from Lupus and bipolar disorder, getting a kidney transplant at such a young age and maintaining dignity in the face of intense hate from fans of her exes and contemporaries has made her someone to root for. Her ability to prove herself and succeed despite constantly being looked down upon by naysayers has made her an admirable force in the industry. Her ability to maintain a persona that is pretty clean and actually appear like a good person has connected her with supporters that would do anything for her.
Selena seems to have cracked the code to succeeding in the internet age. She was the first celebrity to cross the one hundred million mark on instagram and she remains one of the most followed person on the platform to this day. Despite her love-hate relationship with the social media, the internet seems to be a contributing factor to her enduring fame.
People might continue to undermine her because she is not the best vocalist but she is pretty good at everything she does. Her TV show is very successful, her cooking show is entertaining, her production endeavours are pretty successful, her music is pretty memorable and her beauty line is not just innovative but affordable too. She is one of the few artists that have found success in every music genre from afrobeats to Spanish music.
